Alpacas has their origin in South America.
There they are settled particularly in Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
Due to their improbable adaptability one finds the animals there above sea-level also in altitudes of up to 5000m.

Temperature variations of 30 degrees within a day are not a problem for alpacas. Their high-quality fibre protects her against the extreme weather conditions.

About 20 years ago the first animals mainly came to the hobby-attitude from Chile above France and Belgium to Germany.
Since 1996 they are here recognized as agricultural domestic cattle.
